Necessity, consumption, and daily maintenance

A ventilation system is not systematically mandatory in renovation, but it is strongly recommended as soon as the insulation of the home is reinforced, to avoid issues related to humidity that can appear quite quickly after insulation work. A double flow ventilation system does not consume much electricity: current low-consumption motors significantly limit the impact on the bill, largely offset by the heating savings achieved through the heat recovery integrated into the system. However, regular maintenance is necessary, with annual cleaning of the vents and a check of the extraction unit to ensure optimal operation and prevent the gradual decrease in flow due to the natural clogging of the ducts.

Installation in old housing and daily use

For a single-flow VMC, generally count on one to two days for installation; a double-flow VMC, with a more complex duct network to install, may require three to four days depending on the exact layout of the housing. Installing a VMC in an old apartment without existing ducts is still possible, with visible or recessed duct layouts depending on the available false ceiling configurations, a technical feasibility assessed precisely during the visit. The VMC does not completely replace window openings, but it significantly reduces the need for daily manual ventilation; occasionally opening the windows remains beneficial, especially after activities generating a lot of humidity like cooking or a long shower.
