The VAT rate of 6% applies to renovation work carried out in a home over 10 years old, including office fit-out, under the usual conditions related to the registered contractor.

An office fit-out does not fall under the energy grants and is therefore not affected by the current suspension of the Renolution grants confirmed in February 2026. However, it can be included in an ECORENO loan if the project also includes energy-related items such as insulation or ventilation of the relevant room, allowing for financing to be bundled.

Procedures, deadlines, and special cases

No permit is required as long as no load-bearing walls are modified and the layout remains within the existing volume of the housing; a simple declaration may be required in case of an official change of declared professional use. An office and a dressing room can coexist in the same room as long as the functional areas are well separated, with closed storage for clothes on one side and an open space dedicated to work on the other, preventing the two uses from visually clashing. A simple integrated office corner can be completed in three to five working days; expect one to two additional weeks as soon as a complete acoustic treatment or a dedicated room is included in the project. In terms of insurance, a home office generally has no impact, except for professional activities with regular public reception; it is still recommended to inform your insurer of occasional professional use as a precaution.
