Why choose Avenir Renovations?
Why choose a pellet stove?
An automatic and precise heating system
Programmed ignition, ambient thermostat, flame modulation: the pellet stove is controlled like a boiler, sometimes from an app on your mobile. With high efficiency, it burns little for the heat produced.
A renewable fuel
Pellets are made from compressed sawdust and wood chips, often sourced from Belgian sawmills or neighboring countries. They can be stored cleanly, in bags or delivered in bulk to a dedicated storage area.
Choose certified pellets, for example ENplus A1: their consistent quality limits ash and soiling.
A flexible installation
As a supplement to a boiler or a heat pump, in an open living area or, for hydro models, connected to radiators, the pellet stove adapts to many configurations.
The model is chosen based on the size of the room, its openness to the rest of the house, and the role expected from the stove.
Types of pellet stoves
Choosing a pellet stove suitable for your home allows you to combine thermal comfort, autonomy, and control of heat distribution. Between natural convection, ventilation, ductable systems, or hydro models, each solution meets different needs depending on the configuration of the house and the desired heating level.
Storage, autonomy, and maintenance
In very cold weather, a pellet stove consumes on average one to two bags of fifteen kilos per day, depending on its power and the insulation of the house. The integrated tank generally offers one to three days of autonomy.
Fifteen-kilo bags, delivered on pallets, remain the simplest solution for a supplementary stove. A pallet of about one ton covers a good part of the winter, and a cellar, garage, or dry shelter is sufficient for storage.
For higher consumption, pellets can also be delivered in bulk by blower truck, directly into a textile silo or a designated storage area in the cellar, with a filling inlet accessible from the street or driveway. No more carrying bags, and the price per ton is generally more attractive. With a hydro stove or a pellet boiler, a screw or suction system can even automatically feed the appliance from this storage.
A storage area in the cellar must remain perfectly dry, be ventilated, and protected against shocks during blowing. We will check with you the distance between where the truck can park and the filling inlet, a point that matters in narrow streets.
Maintenance is simple but regular. The burner needs to be emptied of its ashes every few days of use, and a complete maintenance by a professional, including flue cleaning, is recommended every year before the heating season.
As the ignition, feed screw, and fan operate on electricity, the stove stops in case of a power outage, unless it is equipped with a backup battery.
What is the price of an installed pellet stove in Leuven?
Model, power, flue to create or line, and options determine the price. Installation included, indicative prices VAT included at a rate of 6% if the house is over ten years old.
| Type of work | Factors affecting the price | Indicative price VAT included |
| Ventilated pellet stove (6 to 9 kW) | Brand, power, connected control | 3,500 to 6,000 € |
| Ductable stove | Number of serviced rooms, length of ducts | 4,500 to 7,500 € |
| Hydro stove connected to central heating | Power, connection to existing circuit | 7,000 to 12,000 € |
| Lining of an existing chimney | Height of the flue, interior condition | 1,200 to 2,500 € |
| New insulated flue up to the roof | Length, floor crossings, outlet | 2,000 to 4,500 € |
| Textile silo or storage in cellar for bulk delivery | Capacity, filling inlet | 1,200 to 4,000 € |
| Floor plate and wall protections | Material, dimensions | 200 to 800 € |
The visit covers the existing flue or the layout of a new one, the combustion air intake, the location of an electrical outlet, and the volume to be heated. The power is calculated from there, not from the catalog.
Example: for the living area of a row house in Wilsele, a ventilated pellet stove of eight kilowatts with lining of the old chimney and glass floor plate often costs between 5,500 and 8,000 euros VAT included.
Procedures, rules, and assistance for a pellet stove in Flanders
- All new appliances must meet European Ecodesign requirements for efficiency and emissions
- The Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij recommends a flue exit on the roof, at least fifty centimeters above the ridge, rather than on the facade
- Since March 1, 2026, a usual chimney construction may, under conditions, be exempt from omgevingsvergunning
- Some Flemish municipalities may temporarily prohibit the use of auxiliary stoves during air pollution peaks
Regarding financing, Flanders does not grant a regional subsidy for pellet stoves. However, the reduced VAT rate remains possible if the house is more than ten years old.
Fire insurance and chimney sweeping
Report the installation of a stove to your fire insurer: they may request a certificate of compliant installation and regular sweeping of the flue. We provide you with the technical documents for the appliance and the flue upon commissioning.
The necessary electricity
A pellet stove is connected to a dedicated outlet, protected according to the RGIE. If the electrical installation is old, check the circuit before installation, especially for a hydro or ductable model whose electrical consumption is slightly higher.

What a pellet stove can heat
A room or the whole house
In a well-insulated semi-detached house that is fairly open, a ductable or hydro stove can cover a large part of the needs. In a partitioned or poorly insulated house, it mainly heats the room it is in: central heating remains necessary for the bedrooms and bathroom.
Frequently asked questions about pellet stoves in Leuven
Can a pellet stove be installed in an apartment?
It is sometimes possible, more often than a wood stove, but it requires a suitable flue up to the roof and the agreement of the co-ownership. The storage of bags and access for maintenance should also be checked before choosing.
How much pellets should be planned for a winter?
For a supplementary stove in an insulated semi-detached house, consumption often ranges between one and two tons per winter. The budget depends on the price of pellets, which varies by season and delivery method, in bags or bulk.
Does a pellet stove make noise?
A slight noise from the fan and the pellets falling into the firebox, quieter on recent models. A natural convection stove, without a fan, is the quietest solution for a calm room.
Do pellets last long?
Yes, if they remain dry. Moisture causes them to swell and disintegrate, which clogs the stove and can block the feed screw. A healthy cellar, garage, or closed silo is very suitable for an entire season.
Installed before the heating season
September and October are the most requested months for stoves. A summer-planned installation ensures you have a stove ready for the first cold evenings.
