Why does Wallonia provide renovation aids?

The Walloon property stock is predominantly old and energy-consuming. To meet European climate and energy efficiency goals, the Region has chosen to encourage citizens to renovate their homes. It aims to achieve an A energy performance rating by 2050. These aids also aim to prevent health issues, reduce energy bills, improve living comfort, and enhance built heritage.

What aids are you entitled to in 2025?

The main regional aids are grouped under the title Housing Grants, accessible through a temporary support scheme 2025-2026.

Eligible works

• Thermal insulation (roof, walls, floors)
• Replacement of exterior joinery
• Bringing electrical or gas installations up to standard
• Renovation or reinforcement of the building's structure
• Treatment against dry rot or humidity
• Installation of efficient heating or ventilation systems

Some grants can be combined if the works are related on the same surface (e.g., insulation + health of the roof).

Grant conditions

• The housing must be located in Wallonia (excluding the German-speaking Community)
• It must have been built more than 15 years ago
• The applicant must be the owner, bare owner, usufructuary, or representative of the co-ownership
• A prior housing audit is required for most works (except roof insulation)

Owner's commitment

Within two years following the first grant application, you must choose one of the following uses:

• Occupy the housing for at least 5 years
• Rent it out while respecting the indicative rent grid for 5 years
• Entrust it to an AIS, SLSP, or APL for at least 9 years
• Make it available free of charge to a relative (parent or in-law up to the 2nd degree) for at least 1 year

What is the amount of housing grants?

The base amount of each grant varies according to the type of work and is multiplied according to your income category.

Income categories

The reference income is calculated based on the tax assessment notice from the previous year, deducting 5,000 € per dependent child, disabled person, or cohabiting parent over 60 years old.

Examples of amounts

The amounts are capped at 70% of the total VAT-inclusive invoice amounts for categories R1 and R2, and at 50% for R3 and R4.

What steps should you take?

1. Have a housing audit conducted by an accredited auditor
2. Submit an “audit” grant application within 8 months
3. Start the works after the official registration of the audit report
4. Send the “works” grant application with invoices and supporting documents
5. Receive the amounts in your account after validation

Particularities to know

• For works limited to roof insulation, the audit is not mandatory
• The works must be carried out by a contractor registered with the BCE
• Works done by yourself do not qualify for a grant
• The compliance of gas and electrical installations is mandatory before any application
